The latest issue of TIME features the dramatic story of French photojournalist William Daniels, who was trapped in Syria for several days while on assignment for TIME. Eventually he made his way out of the ravaged city of Homs, but some of his colleagues did not. To reduce the volume of violent evidence on film or in print, the Assad regime is deliberately targeting journalists, and Daniels is an eyewitness.

To read his story, pick up the latest issue of TIME on newsstands Friday, or read an abbreviated version of the piece on TIME.com

One of this week’s international covers features Vladimir Putin, who we’ve dubbed “Russia’s Incredible Shrinking Prime Minister,” a reference to Putin’s loosening grip on power – and an explanation of what that means for the rest of the world. (It will be available to TIME readers in the South Pacific, Asia and most of continental Europe.)

But the image’s meaning is twofold. More than commentary, it’s also an homage to a duo of past TIME covers featuring President Bill Clinton. He was named ”The Incredible Shrinking President” in 1993 and “The Incredible Shrinking Ex-President” in 2001.

This week’s international edition features a Jeremy Lin cover that’s special to certain parts of Asia, while the rest of Asia, the South Pacific, Europe and Africa will see Kim Jong Un on the cover.

Inside both editions is a great piece on the lost Libyan revolution, more news from Syria, the cover story on Kim Jong Un and our feature on Jeremy Lin, which is also inside this week’s U.S. edition.

Next week’s cover features North Korea’s newest leader Kim Jong Un and hits newsstands Friday. Inside the issue we’ve got a great feature on NBA star Jeremy Lin, a look at the unexpected success of Rick Santorum and an appreciation of Whitney Houston.

Next week’s issue features our interview with prosecutor Preet Bharara, the “Man Busting Wall St,” and hits newsstands Friday.

Next week’s issue featuring The Power of Shyness will be on newsstands Friday.
